Bhutan – Camp 2 – 28 May 2023

Day 1 was a success: I made it in time for lunch. Lunch is served until 5 so I have successfully set my goal low. I made a second goal of taking a lot of photos and I was successful in that as well. Win win!

Not sure how to make running 31k sound exciting but it was a beautiful day. We started with a celebration at the temple. 250 kids came to see us off. So now my expectations for race starts are much higher. I know you all can generate the enthusiasm of 250 kids.

Then it was a lot of running. Mostly flat so very runnable. Each turn brought more breathtaking views. Then it was up. Not much to say about that.

We are staying in tents tonight at a monastery at 5500 ft. My Colorado acclimating is definitely helping but the heat and humidity truly suck.

It’s 2pm and I am looking forward to a quiet afternoon of rest.

Global Limits is taking a bunch of photos as well so you might check out Instagram.

Bhutan – Camp 1 – May 27,2023

Good morning camp 1. I slept well enough. We’re by a river so that helped. Fun day yesterday driving out here from Thimphu. We visited the most holy temple in Bhutan. I’m not even going to try to spell it. We also visited the memorial of the 11 soldiers who died in the three day war against Indian terrorists in 2003. It is the only war Bhutan has experienced since it was unified in the 1700s.

Oh yeah, and we had lunch near the temple of fertility. If you know anyone who’s wanting kids, but know that the children born often look like Bhutanese guides.

Today is about 30k.  We start with a ceremony at the temple then off at 8am.
